1. The game goes to a black screen and freezes in Ambition Mode
Are you playing the game with Windows 8? Windows 8 tends to lead to more Dynasty 8 PC crashes, so try running it with Windows 7 (using Compatibility Mode in Windows 8) and you should not see any more black screens.
2. The game resolution is too small
You can simply go to the options menu and adjust the resolution settings there to match your desktop resolution settings to get a right-fit.
